We're expanding into tropical fish and aquatics!
I've always had fish tanks set up throughout my home. As a child, my mom would take me around to all the pet stores in the area, and one of my favorite things to do was bring home new fish. I had several tanks on the go at all times, and started breeding bettas at seven or eight years old. I would sell them on internet forums and in decorated mason jars at my grandmother's yard sales, long before the peace lily betta jar became popular. This was my start to fishkeeping, and it's been a hobby my whole life.
I went on a drive a few months ago to deliver an order to one of my wholesale insect customers. They have a fantastic pet shop, and I was captivated by their aquatics selection and the many aquariums in their store. They were fully planted and artfully decorated with natural branches and stones, and the fish selection was top notch as well. It was at that moment I decided breeding fish was the next step for my business.
Over the past few months I have been setting up a fish breeding operation in the front room of my insect facility. It's been a lot of fun and I've been adding more and more each week. One of my employees is a lifelong fish keeper as well, and we have been learning a lot from each other. Much of our progress can be seen on our social media pages.
Our growing fish collection includes high-end guppies, parrot cichlids, peacock cichlids, several species of barbs, corydoras, badis, angelfish, plecos, rainbowfish, snails, shrimp, and more. I have around 1,500 square feet of space that I plan to dedicate to fish production, and eventually I may end up opening a pet store in that section of the facility to start supplying our local customers. I've been getting a lot of great feedback, and I'm getting many requests to finally open a storefront rather than just selling everything online.
I just wanted to use this post as a way to let everyone know what we're up to here at Exo-Morphs, and to keep an eye out for some tropical fish being posted on our website, eBay, and Amazon in the near future. We will be accepting wholesale customers, but for now, I just want to focus on keeping fish breeding fun at a smaller scale.
Lots more to come. Check back soon!
